MomLogic

The MomLogic blog’s Christian MomLogic page is featuring an interview with me today. My friend and fellow author Suzie Eller came up with some new and thought-provoking questions, which I think you’ll enjoy. Check it out.

I had the privilege of being a guest on Moody Radio’s Midday Connection on Wednesday this week. I’ve been on many times before and it was quite fun to talk with the show’s host, Anita Lustrea, about my book Rest. If you missed the show, it’s archived on their site at www.middayconnection.org, so click over and listen.

Talking about Sabbath has brought me some e-mails, including one from a Seventh Day adventist in Russia!

Also, you’ll want to visit my friend Jennifer Lyn King’s blog, to read our interview and leave a comment so you can have another chance at winning a free book. She’s also blogging at The Red Room, a website for writers.

Martin Luther King Day

martinlutherkinghaveadreamToday, we remember the life of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. We reflect on his life. We look back at a life that was sacrificed, to make a difference. And tomorrow, we will watch as the first African American president is sworn into office. We look forward, to the future. The confluence of these events is especially poignant. It gives me great hope.

Dr. King once said, “Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”

It is a decision we must make not just today, but every day. I think there is no nuetral ground. To do nothing is actually choosing the latter option of self-focused living.

I want to walk in the light of creative altruism. How about you? What do you think that looks like? Do you know anyone who lives that way?

Let’s talk about it!

Deep freeze

office-windowI’m sure plenty of you are tired of hearing about the cold in the Midwest. yesterday, the temperature didn’t go above zero degrees all day.

Through my window, it looks beautiful. The sky is clear and blue, the sun sparkles on the snow. But it’s weather best enjoyed through a window.

This kind of cold is not just something to complain about. You’re painfully aware that the conditions are not just annoying, but very dangerous. My husband’s car wouldn’t start when he was out last night, he had to have it jumped. Extreme cold makes life very difficult. For those who are on the street, it is unimaginable.

It also makes you incredibly grateful for things like a working furnace, a roof over head. Just today, I got an e-mail to let me know that a family from our church lost their home, and everything in it, to a fire.

They’re devastated, of course, but grateful that they are safe, and that friends are rallying to help them.

Can you see the beauty in the struggles? Have you ever found that difficult circumstances have made you grateful?

By the way, check out these two blogs today on the Rest blog tour. leave a comment, and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a book.

Event rescheduled

The weather this season has been extreme. We’ve already had almost 40 inches of snow this winter–and we’re not yet half way through the snow season. Normal for the year is abou 27 inches.

due to the fact that it’s snowing and the temps are going to drop below zero later today, I’ve rescheduled the event planned for this evening at Avalon Spa. I’m hoping that people will come next Wed. Jan. 21, and that the weather will cooperate!

Stay safe and stay warm!
